ERIN COUNCIL ACCEPTS VOLUNTARY LEVY OFFER FROM NESTLE
4/19/2017 5:50:26 PM

Erin council has voted to accept a voluntary levy from Nestle Waters Canada, despite calls from opponents not to take the deal.

Mayor Allan Alls says council accepted the offer because it will help reduce the burden on taxpayers.

Nestle is set to pay the Town 50 cents per 1000 litres of water it takes in Hillsburgh, with a minimum payment of $25,000 per year.

Chair of the Wellington Water Watchers (WWW) Mike Nagy says accepting the offer will set a dangerous precedent.

He says WWW has a Water for Life non-profit plan trying to phase this practice out over the next 10 years.
