LOCAL POULTRY PRODUCERS WARNED AFTER BACKYARD CHICKEN FLOCK TESTS POSITIVE FOR HERPEVIRUS
4/19/2017 9:21:48 AM

The Feather Board Command Centre is warning poultry producers in Dufferin County of a nearby chicken flock that has tested positive for Infectious Laryngotracheitis.

It recently issued an ILT Disease advisory to producers within a 10-kilometre zone southwest of Shelburne.

The Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has confirmed that birds from a small backyard dual-purpose chicken flock in Dufferin have tested positive for ILT.

ILT is an acute herpevirus infection of chickens and pheasants and can cause a severe drop in egg production and an increase in flock mortality.

The virus is not transmittable to humans.
